Mayoral hopefuls meet the public in the park
The Portland Mercury and Portland Parks & Recreation present a You Promised public forum on Portlands environment and park uses on Thursday, September 9, 6:308:30 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Park amphitheater. The forum will feature mayoral candidates Tom Potter, Jim Francesconi, Sam Adams, and Nick Fish, who will each present five ideas they hope to implement in their first year in office. A public discussion moderated by the Mercurys Phil Busse will follow.
Emergency team supplies stolen
The Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) supply cabinet was broken into in mid June. Fire extinguishers, pry bars, rope, and two barrels of first aid supplies were stolen. These supplies are maintained by NET so that citizens trained by the fire department can provide immediate assistance to neighbors in the event of earth-quakes or other disasters. The NET is asking for cash and material donations to replace these items so that neigh-borhood emergency preparedness remains high. Cash donations can be made to the Portland Fire Museum, 55 SW Ash, Portland OR 97204. Since the museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, the donation (which would be made to the museum in the name of the Mt. Tabor NET) would be a tax-deductible charitable contribution. If you would like more information about Mt. Tabor NET, including how to sign up for training, please call Michael Schindel at 503/236-6812.
Mt. Tabor email list brings up-to-date news
The MTNA email list provides a means for posting announcements of current events and neighborhood issues. The list is being hosted at riseup.net, a website providing electronic support for activist and community groups. An administrator moderates the list to prevent unsolicited email from being sent to your mailbox. List traffic is kept low so that it is a means of notification, rather than annoyance. To subscribe, go to http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/mttaborpdx, or email list administrator John Watson at jkwatson@gmail.com.
