Friends of Trees will be planting in Mt. Tabor contact our neighborhood coordinator, Dan Hannon at 503.282.5288 or hannond@comcast.net if you'd like to purchase a subsidized tree typically $25-75. Planting will take place on March 10, 2007, but you need to order your trees by December 8, 2006.
Historic Landmarks Commission meeting, December 11 at 1:30 PM in the 1900 Building, 1900 SW 4th Avenue, Room 2500A, 2nd floor. Agenda item is a report from Parks and Recreation on Portland's historic parks. For more info or to confirm presentation, contact Nancy Quan, Commission secretary, at (503) 823-7803.
III. POTENTIAL SALE OF MT. TABOR PARK LAND / PARKS RESTRUCTURING
Nancy Norby proposed a joint neighborhood meeting with South Tabor and Friends of Mt. Tabor to Address Potential Sale of Mt. Tabor Park Land. MTNA Board member. Paul Leistner advised that SEUL (Southeast Uplift) might assist in arrangement. Possible sites including Atkinson commons and Akinson Elementary school discussed.
Cascade Anderson-Geller advised that the Community Research Teams continues its discovery efforts re: Mt Tabor Yard and other (PPR) Portland Parks and Recreation/ Water Bureau property transfers.
Cascade Anderson-Geller advised that Community Meeting on Nov. 13 was great. List of questions to be posed to PPR attached.
Cascade Anderson-Geller led a Brief Discussion of MTNA Representation in the Community. Members must openly express if they represent MTNA or individual views.
Cascade Anderson-Geller provided an explanation of Portland Parks Budget Meetings - advised again that it is at the budget meetings that public notice takes place. Motion: Paul Leistner moved that MTNA questions (Cascades list of questions) be answered. Don Jacobson seconded. Approved unanimously.
John Laursen proposed reimbursement of Community Research Teams expenses. Cascade Anderson-Geller advised that Water Bureau had waived fees, Motion: Paul Leistner moved that MTNA set aside $300.00 to reimburse expenses of the Community Research Team. Nancy Norby seconded. Approved unanimously.
Don Jacobson proposed a letter to Commissioner Saltzman re Public Process taken off agenda. Modifications suggested. New Motion: John Laursen moved to oppose any transfer of ownership or use of land in or adjacent to Mt Tabor Park. Don Jacobson seconded. Approved, but not unanimously. Additional Motion: Don Jacobson moved that any letter should include an environmental impact study, and that any process (for Mt Tabor Yard transfer) be open so that the public can have confidence in the proceedings. Dave Hilts seconded. Approved unanimously.
Justin Leonard proposed the appointment of a spokesperson to fill Presidents role and speak on behalf of MTNA re Mt. Tabor Park Sale/Parks Restructuring MOTION: Appointment of Official Spokesperson. Motion: Justin Leonard moved to appoint John Laursen as spokesperson to fill Presidents role and speak on behalf of MTNA re Mt. Tabor Park Sale/Parks Restructuring. Nancy Norby seconded - Approved unanimously.
IV. MTNA BUSINESS and ISSUES
Diane Redd & John Laursen provided update re Mt. Tabor Entryway Fundraising and Construction Progress. Traffic lights should be installed anytime now. Curb extension will be completed after first of the year. Diane Redd reiterated her matching grant up to $300.00.
Diane Redd provided update on Neighborhood Small Grants Project (from $500-$5000 of $41,000 for SEUL neighborhoods; focusing on collaborative efforts) Application deadline is December 1, 2006. Only one application per group
Mt. Tabor Entryway and Stark Street Traffic Calming considered for application. Motion: Paul Leistner moved that Stark Street Traffic Calming Study be the subject of the grant application (proposed grant application attached). Dave Hilts seconded. Passed Unanimously.
Nancy Norby provided update regarding status of Good Neighbor Agreement with Upper Hawthorne Businesses - still in process. Motion: Paul Leistner and Diane Redd moved to request that a grant in support of the Mt Tabor Gateway Project - a request that businesses contribute to the installation and maintenance of the gateway be included in the agreement. Nancy Norby seconded. Passed unanimously.
Paul Leistner provided Southeast Uplift (SEUL) Board Update. Advised that due to reduced staff SEUL may give up Sun Newspaper.
Diane Redd provided update on MTNA Land Use Committee last week.
Historic Building code in progress.
Stan Terpstra provided update re: Friends of Mt. Tabor Park. Letter in opposition to Mt Tabor Yard transfer Attached.
