Presentations

Neighborhood survey results
Charles Heying presented his 18-page analysis of the MTNA neighborhood survey. Peoples' concerns were weighed in many different ways; among the top concerns were encouraging neighborhood-appropriate small businesses, retaining the neighborhood newsletter, reducing speeding on neighborhood streets. Two other top concerns—preserving and maintaining existing reservoirs, and reducing car prowls—will be brought to the SEUL neighborhood agenda meeting as representative of what the neighborhood would like to see. The third MTNA item will be a request for revising the comprehensive plan for SE Portland with more citizen involvement.

Naturescaping workshop support
Sharlaine Blaise has asked if MTNA could donate $50 for the workshop put on by the soil and irrigation district. This was approved.

Lots of Fun fundraiser
Ivan Farber and his neighbors have been working on making the church-owned vacant lot at 51st & Lincoln a community space for adults and children, with eventual plans for a playground. They're raiding funds, starting with a planning meeting on October 6. They will have a fundraising event on October 30.

Committee Reports

SEUL board
Charles H. hopes that the upcoming neighborhood agendas meeting will be as successful as the last, which focused on Washington High School and got results. The SEUL board voted to oppose Measure 36; he'd like MTNA to take a stand on it. SEUL has also been discussing the historic code rewrites, especially the demolition code. Mayoral candidates Francesconi and Potter will speak at a forum on 9/20.

Friends of the Reservoirs
Barbara Grimala invited all reservoir volunteers to come to a celebration on October 10. Lois Heying mentioned that a committee is looking at the water bureau's CIP process.

New Business

Moving meeting time to 7
Diane R. brought up the idea of changing the meeting time to 7 p.m. She said the response from board members and leadership volunteers has been mostly positive and thinks we should try it.
