August 16, 2006

Minutes of June and July 2006 meeting reviewed. MOTION: introduced by Paul Leistner seconded by Lois Heying to approve minutes as corrected - approved unanimously.
Treasurers Report presented by Bing Wong (copy attached).
Announcements by Justin Leonard: Oregon Symphony in the Neighborhoods -- Saturday, August 26 at Harrison Park Free Admission: 3-6:30 pm; Portland Adult Soapbox Derby in Mt. Tabor Park Saturday, Sept. 9.
III. MTNA BUSINESS and ISSUES
Allison Browne of The Natural Areas, Parks and Streams Campaign and MTNA Board Member Don Jacobson explained the 2006 Natural Areas, Parks and Streams Bond Measure (printed information and maps attached). Allison Browne asked for MTNA support of Ballot measure 26-80 which will appear on the November Ballot. The measure will provide over $227M toward the procurement of public lands. It will be paid for by property tax levy which, per the campaign, will be less than $3.00 annually for the average household. Ms Browne advised that in addition to land acquisition, grants would be available for neighborhood projects. MOTION: Resolution in Support of Bond Measure deferred - not enough Board Members present for quorum.
Justin Leonard outlined MTNA website issues and called for volunteers.
Justin Leonard outlined Policy Regarding Posting to MTNA Listserve -- HYPERLINK "mailto:mttaborpdx@lists.riseup.net" \t "_blank" mttaborpdx@lists.riseup.net - update commencing. Among other uses, listserve may provide a method of distributing newsletter.
Justin Leonard characterized the MTNA booth at Mt. Tabor Community Crater Concert as a success. He stated that a lot of people were spoken to about the Mt. Tabor Gateway Project.
Justin Leonard advised that the Mt. Tabor Playground Improvements should be complete by the end of Jan. 2007.
John Laursen provided an update on Mt. Tabor Gateway Design/Development, advised that fifth tree is likely.
John Laursen and Stan Terpstra provided an update from the Mt. Tabor Gateway Fundraising committee. John Laursen advised the group of $3000.00 matching grant offered by Jan Caplener of Realty trust. John Laursen and Stan Terpstra outlined a proposal for a fundraiser at the Academy Theatre featuring the film The Real Dirt on Farmer John with an introduction and talk by the local director and filmmakers.
Justin Leonard provided an update on the Neighborhood Visioning Efforts. He encouraged interested parties to complete the questionnaire at HYPERLINK "http://www.portlandonline.com/mayor" www.portlandonline.com/mayor .
Paul Leistner provided a Southeast Uplift (SEUL) Board Update. Paul Leistner advised that elections have been held and that he has been elected president.
Paul Leistner provided an update on the Atkinson/Tabor Community Commons project. He advised that the White House Drug Czar visit was a success. A framed award was presented. Several parties interested in providing design and construction assistance.
Sullivans Gulch-Gateway (along I-84 from Gateway to the Esplanade) 4-mile bike/walking trail feasibility study. MOTION: Resolution in Support of Project. Matter deferred.
Dave Hilts provided an update on the Zoning Change Proposal for 60th & Belmont Development; change to Mixed Use from Commercial/Office use is sought. The site developer is scheduled for September meeting.
