Issues and Concerns

Insurance for special events
Charles Heying would like MTNA to write to SEUL asking for coverage of his fundraiser for Café au Play, which is not based in the neighborhood and is not an MTNA event; in addition, alcohol will be served at the event. This raised questions about what events we should extend coverage to, and if they should be explicitly connected to MTNA. It was moved that MTNA write to SEUL to extend insurance coverage. The motion was not seconded and therefore failed.

Parking on Ash St.
Deb Scott lives across from Mt. Tabor Middle School and is concerned about impassability due to parking on her street, especially during after-hours community classes, in no-parking zones. She will with John Turner, the traffic liaison, to see what can be done. Other suggestions included speaking with the principal to make sure parents park correctly.

Tri-Met signs
Nadine Fiedler reported two new Tri-Met signs on Belmont St. that completely block the signs for 65th St. and 58th St. John Turner will help investigate

Airplane noise
Several neighbors have noticed an increase in airplane noise. People to call to complain include Sam Adams (or Jane in his office) and Dan Saltzman.

Presentations

SE walking map
Barbara Grimala and Sharie Dietz reported the progress of the map project, which is headed by Linda Ginenthal. The group brainstormed ideas for inclusion.

Burnside Bridgehead project
Eric Bosler, acting the results of an MTNA straw poll he took, passed out a motion that the Burnside Bridgehead project not include a Big Box tenant nor should the city spend any public funds to facilitate or subsidize a development containing such. Discussion touched on preservation and support of small business. The motion passed unanimously.

Crater concerts contribution
Diane Redd said that the concert committee needs $10,000 to put on the July concerts. It was moved to contribute $500 for a sponsorship; this passed unanimously.

Committee Reports

Environment
Don Jacobson reported that a group of 13 met and discussed issues that include pesticide use and wildlife habitat in the park, naturescaping, treeplanting, and backyard wildlife certfication. It was moved that the MTNA board recommend that the neighborhood association take on the project of certifying yards for wildlife and that the environment committee be a vehicle for that certification; it passed unanimously. Another motion was for MTNA to allocate $75 for two copies each of the best books about certification; this passed unanimously.

Water bureau update
Paul L. and John Wish met with members of Tom Potter’s staff to urge a new direction and a new culture in the bureau.

MTNA organization
Elections will be held in May, and Diane R, is setting up a nominating committee. She has also asked for a review of the bylaws.

Drive-Thru Wake-Up Deli
Paul L. reported that a neighborhood consortium is still trying to buy the property for community use. The cost after payment to law enforcement and clean-up will be about $20,000. He asked if MTNA could write a formal letter of support; it was so moved and passed unanimously.

Clean-up
Gayle Marechal has set the clean-up for Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Mt. Tabor block captain training
This is set for March 1.

Off leash area
Diane R. said that neighbors of the off leash area are very unhappy with the noise level. She is investigating the possibility of a good neighbor agreement; Elaine Cogan will facilitate the planning process. The group is looking for representatives of all stakeholders to meet and will meet on Wednesdays (except MTNA mights).

SEUL
Steve Hoyt said that Paula Manley is the SEUL interim director. Charles Heying said that a group wants demolition of the county building on the site of graves next to the Lone Fir Cemetery.
